Thunderbird Version 3.x – DO NOT Install or Upgrade!

For the time being I recommend NOT to upgrade to Thunderbird 3.x.

There are so many people reporting various problems with version 3.x on the TB support forum that I cringe.

There are some functional changes that seem to me to be a clear loss of functionality.

And here comes the absolute whopper: Thunderbird can not import from Windows Live Mail! WLM is the default email program on Windows computers since the advent of Windows Vista in Jan. 2007. The Thunderbird developers seem to completely ignore this simple fact!

Personally I am desolate that I can no longer offer to my customers a much safer alternative email program.

As usual I welcome comments and suggestions right here in the blog. Thank you in advance.

I don't if I'm putting in the right place I'm running Windows 7 IE, Firefox (which I'm not to happy with) & Chrome which I think is great. Microsoft keeps asking for a update KB954430, which I installed many times, I reseached this and I'm not the only one who has this problem, do you know anything about this?

Big Jim,
It would be nice if you would explain why you are not happy with Firefox!
And if you think Chrome is safer than Firefox it remains your opinion; the facts are different.

On the Internet it is not about "being happy", it is all about security, security and security.

First of all Firefox requires my password after every email I read, thats the main reason I'm not to fond of it, also why does Microsoft keeps asking for KB94430, when its already been downloaded? Jim

Big Jim,
It is not Firefox requesting your password over and over again but rather your email system and/or your email provider; maybe even that it is a handling oversight?

As far as KB94430 is concerned: A simple Google search would have shown you that many people had the same problem; it is a Microsoft issue.
The most often recommended cure is "Typically uninstalling and reinstalling does the trick."
